Life is about experiences, memories and moments…

3112075My Husband always says that “life is about experiences….memories and moments”.

When ever I second guess going on a trip, taking time off from work or any risk really, he always reminds me of what you get out of life is what experiences you put into it.
He really amped up this memories and moments mantra when he rappelled 38 stories (or about 480 feet!) down the W hotel in downtown Austin for “Make a Wish” foundation. It is hard to see him on the left as I am taking the screen shot from a video I took from a video screen.

5775476Once the cameras were no longer able to follow him from the top, I moved to the bottom of the building… OH MY GOONESS… the height really sunk in! I couldn’t even see his yellow NDSU T-shirt just a black dot! He started slower and got the hang of it, then he started cruising down several stories in a few seconds and quickly stopped. boom! yank!
When you are stopped in mid rappel, it jerks you quite a bit and your body can move sideways, back wards or lay you on you back! No panicking just adrenaline pumping in him. Leif just kept on kicking or sort of running in place until he got his feet back on the slippery building. I was projecting MY freak out thinking something was wrong but according to a former rapeller, this was normal. “Normal?”

9645395Leif landed in just over 6.5 minutes with a few of the make a wish kids, me and four of our best friends at the base of the hotel. One of our friends captioned the end of his descent as “The Viking has landed!”
All experiences have teaching moments:
1. Be brave and your faith will keep you strong. Leif had faith in Spirit and the equipment to keep him safe and this was for kids.
2. Keep a group of friends that you would trust with your life. We are SO fortunate to have a network of friends from ND to TX who we trust completely. So thankful they shared that experience with us. We trust them 100% because they are family.
3. When you move too fast life may slow you down a bit (OK jerk you and put you sideways or upside down!). Don’t over think it just let your connection to your faith, Spirit, family… whatever you are tethered to… ground you. Keep on kicking!!
4. Follow your passion and celebrate moments to create wonderful memories.
